A Historic Milestone : First Cohort of Master in Tropical Plant Disease Management Graduates at USM’s 63rd Convocation (2025)

25 November 2025, Penang – The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), proudly marked a significant milestone as it celebrated the inaugural cohort of graduates from the Master of Science in Tropical Plant Disease Management programme during the First Session of the 63rd USM Convocation Ceremony.

The convocation ceremony was graced by the presence of His Majesty Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, Raja Perlis and Chancellor of USM, who personally conferred degrees upon the first five (5) graduates of this pioneering postgraduate programme.

The Master of Science in Tropical Plant Disease Management programme was established to address the growing need for expertise in plant pathology and disease management within tropical ecosystems where a critical area for sustaining Malaysia’s agricultural landscape. The graduation of this inaugural cohort reflects SBS commitment to advancing scientific knowledge, research excellence and development of highly skilled professionals capable of addressing the challenges of tropical plant health.

SBS extends its heartfelt appreciation to its academic staff, researchers and support teams for their unwavering dedication in ensuring the successful implementation and progression of this programme. The School is confident that this first batch of graduates will play a pivotal role in contributing to national and regional efforts in crop protection, sustainable agriculture, and scientific innovation.
