SBS WELCOMES FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS ACADEMIC SESSION OF 2026/2027

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) successfully organised the Minggu Siswa Lestari PPSKH for Academic Session 2026/2027 on 25 September 2026 at Lecture Hall S, USM.
The programme brought together 189 first-year students, providing an important platform for new students to become acquainted with the SBS community. It also marked their first opportunity to meet and interact face-to-face with academic staff, administrative staff, laboratory staff and members of the wider SBS community.
The programme commenced with a welcoming address by the Dean of SBS, Associate Professor Dr. Amir Hamzah bin Ahmad Ghazali, who welcomed the new students and shared his aspirations and guidance as they begin their academic journey at USM.
This was followed by an Academic Briefing delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Nik Ahmad Irwan Izzauddin bin Nik Him, Deputy Dean (Academic, Career & International). The briefing provided students with essential information on academic matters and guidance to help them plan and navigate their studies throughout their time at SBS.
The programme continued with introductions to the respective academic programmes by the Chairpersons of the programmes. Students were given an overview of their respective programmes, areas of study and the opportunities available within their chosen fields.
The students were also introduced to Bio-Society, the student association at SBS, which briefly highlighted student activities and opportunities for involvement within the School.
In addition, representatives from the Hamzah Sendut Library conducted a briefing on the library facilities, services and resources available to support students in their learning and academic development at USM.
The programme also included a discussion session with Academic Advisors, providing students with an opportunity to seek initial guidance and clarification regarding their studies while establishing an early connection with their respective Academic Advisors.
The event concluded with a group photography session involving the first-year students and SBS staff, marking a memorable beginning to their academic journey at USM.
SBS extends a warm welcome to all new students, Academic Session of 2026/2027 and wishes them a meaningful and successful journey throughout their studies. May their time at SBS be filled with valuable learning experiences, personal growth and opportunities.
