Research background
My research is looking into the population dynamic of flora in areas designated for rehabilitation programs. Using fast growing creepers and shrub of legumes (e.g., Mimosa spp) as soil property stabilizers, the rehabilitation of degraded lands is being studied in stages. The forest ecosystem services and functions are also being progressively researched using two groups of plants (i.e., Arecaceae, Rattan and Mimosaseae, Mimosa pigra), both economically important at the extreme ends. Among research grants I have received is the Research University Grant-USM to conduct research on the relation of small mammals and the distribution of rattan seeds and seedlings. As for Mimosa pigra, I am looking at the effect of stimulated and continuous herbivory events on the seedling survivability which may impact its population spread.
