Research background
Biosurfactants, such as glycolipids and lipopeptides, are vital in bioremediation due to their ability to enhance the breakdown of pollutants. Microorganisms like Streptomyces and Pseudomonas aeruginosa can produce these compounds in a bioreactor under submerged culture conditions. A fed-batch system optimizes their production when working with immiscible substrates, improving efficiency. Agricultural waste serves as a cost-effective medium for biosurfactant synthesis, promoting sustainability. By harnessing these microbial processes, industries can develop eco-friendly solutions to mitigate environmental contaminants while repurposing organic waste into valuable products, reinforcing the role of biotechnology in sustainable environmental management.
