Research background
Nurul Izza Ismail obtained her Diploma in Science from Universiti Teknologi MARA, followed by a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Honours) and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from Universiti Sains Malaysia. In 2020, she completed her PhD in Bioengineering at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland. That same year, she joined the School of Biological Sciences as a Senior Lecturer in the Biotechnology Division, specializing in Bioinformatics. She teaches a range of undergraduate courses, including immunology, medical microbiology, protein biochemistry, and bioinformatics. Her research team focuses on the structural interactions of biological molecules and intracellular signalling of cells, particularly in the context of SARS-CoV-2 and breast cancer.
