My research focuses mainly in the field of marine science (marine ecology, biodiversity and conservation) , aquaculture and environmental studies with special emphasis on invertebrate, in particular the molluscs. My research sites cover areas from the Straits of Malacca, South China Sea, Japan Sea, Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Australian waters and the Indonesian islands. The studies conducted cover the field of coral reefs, benthic biology, conservation, marine environmental management and aquaculture. The studies are conducted in collaboration with other universities and advisory council boards at national (e.g. Malaysian Marine Park Advisory Board) and international levels (International Coral Research Initiative (ICRI)
